Architect Practice: Office Insurance

Background

An architects’ practice suffered a break-in to their office and had several hi spec desk top computers and laptops stolen. They submitted a claim for just over £14,500 for the replacement of the computers and laptops.

Problem

The insurer offered to settle the claim for £7,000 – under half the amount claimed – having re-priced the equipment itself.

What we did

We met with our client to obtain further details of the kit which had been stolen and their specialist requirements. We then spoke directly to their preferred IT suppliers and also to Dell in India, as most of the equipment was of Dell manufacture. These enquiries took time but we felt it was necessary to undertake this thorough research in order to challenge the insurer.

Outcome

It was clear that the insurer’s valuation of the replacement equipment was wholly inaccurate. Based on the valuations our expert claims team provided, the claim was finally settled for the full amount claimed.
