What does After the Event Insurance mean?

Print E-mail

liftingMany personal injury claims are dealt with by solicitors acting on a ‘no win, no fee’ agreement. This means that the solicitors will only be paid if you win your case and receive some compensation. Once you have been compensated then the solicitors will look to recover their fees from the defendant or their insurance company.

The advantage of ‘no win, no fee’ means that if you lose you would not have to pay your solicitors fee but there may be other costs which you would still have to pay. Common costs in a personal injury claim include medical reports, police accident reports and barristers fees. An After The Event insurance policy will cover these costs if you lose and it would normally be taken out at the start of your claim.

Your solicitor should be able to arrange After The Event cover for you and will advise you if you need it. It is also often possible to claim under the legal expenses cover of your household insurance for these costs so not everyone will need to take out After The Event insurance.
