Where an alarm is installed most UK policies will have an alarm warranty attaching which stipulates, amongst other things, that the alarm is fully set, operative and has police response for cover to be in place. Where this is not the case insurers usually apply what is known as co-insurance (where you, the policyholder, contribute towards the cost of a claim). The co-insurance is set anywhere between 15% to 50% depending on the theft attractiveness of the stock and contents at your location. As soon as the police response is reinstated the co-insurance is removed. |
