Health and safety training increases risk awareness and reduces costs

liftingHealth and safety training increases the awareness of people about the risks they face in the workplace, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has said.

Caroline Holden, commercial affairs director at IOSH, said people need a good understanding of this subject area, after it was revealed that more than 130,000 workers were injured and 180 killed last year in UK workplaces.

IOSH, which was founded in 1945, is the chartered body for health and safety professionals and has more than 35,000 individual members.

Health & Safety Training

A typical course could usually be covered in one day and would include:-

  • Why Health and Safety needs to be managed
  • Key elements of the UK legal system for Health and Safety
  • The consequences of failing to manage Health and Safety effectively
  • An understanding of why accidents and incidents happen
  • Risk assessments and how they can be used as a basis of an accident and ill health prevention policy
  • The actions needed to provide good Health and Safety leadership for your organisation

Increased awareness and improved safety procedures can prevent accidents, resultant (expensive) claims and in the medium to long term generate significant insurance premium reductions.

Most insurers can provide assistance and training support at discounted rates to existing policyholders.  If you are interested in finding out more about how IOSH training could benefit your business, increase risk awareness and reduce workplace accidents, please contact Chris Tebbit (Broking Director)
